Quick tips for those of you who have to work on large projects with Eclipse or IDEA.

Hide your compiled code from your IDE

Yes that’s right. If your project is quite large, it is highly unlikely that you use the IDE to compile. Quite likely you use an ant script to build. So your IDE does not need to see the compiled classes. Set up your source in the src path and external jars as libraries.
Things should speed up a lot. I haven’t seen any negative effect of this. Let me know if you find a problem or think this won’t work.


What about debugging?

Remote debugging works fine with this approach.
